Steps

    Mention to your child when you feel good about them. A child needs to hear that they can do things well. This will make your child feel important and valuable.

    Don't ever hesitate to praise your child. The more praise, the more the child feels capable. If your child completes a task well, and has a talent, tell them. Your child will be so happy that you showed that you love them. You cannot over-praise a child.

    Teach your child to compliment themselves every day and especially when they feel down. The child will learn how to pick themselves up from feeling down as a matter of habit.

    If your child needs to be criticized, do it constructively. Don't attack your child but do show your child that their behavior is unacceptable. Also tell them that you are helping them be a better person.

    Tell your child about decision making. Show them that if you respect yourself, you will make good decisions. Help them learn about the decision-making process.

  • Give your child opportunities to enjoy their self.
  • Make sure your child always thinks positively about themselves. Never allow them to put themselves down.
  • Tell them to love their body.
  • Encourage socializing and making friends. Make sure they only keep friends that like them.
  • Make sure your child has a lot of fun being a child.
  • Tell your child to always be independent, self-confident and unique.
