How to Be Kissable

A person's kissability can be negatively affected by many factors, including bad breath and chapped lips. However, there are plenty of things you can do to minimize these problems and make yourself more kissable.

Have fresh breath. Begin by brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily. Don't forget the tongue because 90% of bad breath is the result of a dirty tongue. Throughout the day use breath mints, breath strips, or gum. If you use mouthwash, use one that is clear and alcohol free--colored formulas stain teeth over time, and alcohol deteriorates gum tissue. If you choose gum, make sure you have an easy way to get rid of it before kissing.

Make sure that your lips are well moisturized. You should apply lip balm frequently (carry one in your pocket or purse). This will help keep your lips soft. The best choices are Carmex, Nivea, Burt's Bees, Vaseline (in moderation because you don't want the other person to worry about getting gooey Vaseline or Carmex all over them), SoftLips, or EOS (Evolution of Smooth).

Do NOT lick your lips. The saliva dries out your lips, causing them to crack, split, or become chapped. And no one wants to kiss rough lips.

Don't forget to look after your skin. Always wash your face with a mild, unscented soap DESIGNED for the face. And don't forget moisturizer! This protects your pores from dirt that can cause acne and prevents build up of oils. (Who would want to kiss you if your skin shines like sweat?).

Make plenty of eye contact. This provides the intimate connection that is an invitation to kissing. If you have large glasses try taking them off, or getting contacts for the future. Some people absolutely hate it when your glasses start to interfere with the contact. Try taking them off before kissing though, since a hand gesture toward your glasses might be found unromantic. Just keep light, welcoming eye contact. Do not stare, as this may be a bit frightening and/or make the other person uncomfortable.

Being comfortable makes you appear more relaxed and therefore more kissable. Make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes. And if you're a guy, most people like smooth hairless faces so don't forget to shave if you need to.

Make sure you don't stare at your (future) partner's lips. Some people think this connotes the idea of kissing and hopefully he/she will pick up the hint. But, more often than not, it just ends up making people think that's all you want to do, and you aren't listening to them. Relax and let nature take it's course, and try not to be obsessed with it too much.

Ensure your mouth isn't carrying a river of fluid! Just before kissing - swallow discretely. As you move your tongue around your mouth (French) and use a very light sucking action (standard kiss), the glands on your tongue and in your mouth will produce more saliva. You don't want your lips dry but you certainly don't want to dribble in your partner's mouth either.

Smile and relax. When you are tense, your whole body will respond including your tongue and lips. Don't worry - they are probably JUST as nervous as you are in either a first kiss or the first kiss of a new relationship. You can now be an expert first time round.

  • When you kiss someone (especially if it is just a casual kiss) DO NOT pucker your lips (in other words, don't "smooch")! Say the word "peaches" silently to yourself- your lips will be in the perfect position. It also helps not to lick your lips; no one likes a messy, wet kiss.
  • When you notice your partner leaning towards you & looking you dead in the eye, he or she wants to kiss. If the environment is not conducive to a kiss, use the next opportunity.
  • Sometimes, while kissing its fun to run your fingers through your partner's hair, and vice versa for them. So it might be a turn-off if your hair is super stiff or greasy. Try to avoid heavy duty hair products if you think you'll be kissing that night!
  • Mix a tablespoon of sugar with a drop of vanilla extract, a sprinkle of hot cocoa mix, and a few drops of water to create a thick, gooey substance to exfoliate your lips. Just swipe your finger in it and move the rough sugar over your lips smoothly in little circles twice a day. Finish by applying a thick layer of Vaseline and your lips will be super soft in NO time.
  • A surprise kiss is often quite memorable, but if you don't know if the person likes you as more than a friend, it can be a disaster. You should always have consent.
  • If you are a girl, wear a light shade of lipstick or flavored lip gloss. However, if you're the cautious type, avoid lipstick or lipgloss, but wear a conditioner or balm. This way, it won't seem like you have sandpaper and not sticky lips.
  • Some people want to kiss in the earlier stages in a relationship. If you want to kiss, most especially the person you're with wants to kiss you. So go for it!
  • Make your kiss last long, and if you want to remember it, keep your position and keep following up with kisses. You don't want your kiss to be over in a second.
  • Minty lip balms also freshen your breath.
  • Make sure you don't pucker your lips too much; that's for family members and detracts from the intimacy by putting space between you and your sweetie.
  • If you want to wear lipstick, put on a balm and put a light color in the middle of your lips.
  • Guys, having a clean shaved face is best. A stubble can hurt the girl after a while from constant rubbing.
  • Mess around with your lip; for example touching it and biting it. This will likely grant more attention to your lips.
  • If you smoke or dip tobacco...quit! In addition to being bad for your health, smoking or dipping yellows your teeth and causes severe bad breath, which will keep others from even thinking about kissing you!
  • Set your limits, if all you want to do is kiss, make it clear, and don't ever go past your zone of comfort.
  • You don't have to wait for the first move on his part. Go in yourself.
  • If you get rejected, don't take it personally, everyone gets rejected at some point!
  • Be prepared for them to slip in a tongue. It'll happen sooner or later. Make sure you're ready and check out this article
  • Just let it happen.
  • Try to avoid chewing gum in the time of building up to the kiss, as this will make it harder to dispose of it when your sweetie's lips come in.

  • Don't be surprised when your partners lips comes faster than you think. That just means they are eager to kiss you and have waited for a while. Chances are, you have too, so go for it.
  • Bad breath is not just caused by bacteria! Dehydration, stress, and fatigue can all contribute to bad breath. Drink water, relax, and get lots of sleep!
  • If you brush your teeth after every meal and still have bad breath, remember: most of the bacteria in your mouth is on your tongue! Get a tongue scraper--it will remove more bacteria than a regular toothbrush.
  • Be careful not to get thick, greasy lip balm outside your lip line. The oils in the product can build up and cause pimples around your lips.
  • If your lips are feeling dry and you don't have lip balm on hand, DO NOT LICK THEM! Over time, this dries out your lips badly.
  • If you have severe bad breath that is not helped by brushing, flossing, etc., consult your dentist or doctor.
