Get Good Grades. This seems like something you are told a lot, and it is. If you want to be an excellent influence as a student, aim to have a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher. Try your best in academics, and aim for A's with the occasional B. Kids in grades below you will want to excel like you have, so show how important it is to be academic in high school.

Be Involved in Extra-Curricular Activities. This not only looks good on your transcript, it will make others want to get involved as well. Try finding two to three after school hobbies you would like to pursue, and do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Try some of the following:
    • Sports (Football, volleyball, basketball, track, soccer, tennis, baseball, cheerleading, skateboarding, skiing, swimming, etc.).
    • National Honor Society (NHS): This is for high school sophomores and above who have demonstrated leadership in their school, as well as maintained a G.P.A. of 3.5 or above.
    • Student Council: Plan school parties, dances (homecoming, prom, etc.), fundraisers, and special events. Improve your school!
    • Youth Group: Find a group of kids in your area, and spend some time discussing your beliefs.
    • Band: Learn to play an instrument yourself, or get together with some friends and play.

Be a Leader. If you insist on being a strong and fair leader, you will gain respect from your peers and be a good influence. Whatever your hobbies are, choose to excel in them. Practice every day, and strive to be the best in the school. Others will follow. Leaders spark followers to become leaders as well.

Stay Away from Drugs, Alcohol, and Sex. Taking part in any of these activities can and will lead to trouble. Stay above the influence, and prove that you are stronger than those who give in to doing these things. Find a group of friends who want to be successful in life like you, and stick with the group. Simply stay away from those who try to pressure you into trying dangerous substances or doing things you do not want to do.

Most Importantly, Be Yourself. That sounds cliché, but in the end, you will be better off being who you are. Do not be ashamed, and very importantly, do not try to change for anyone. If you choose to remain true to who you are no matter who tries to make fun of you, you will be admired and influence others well.

  • Do not bully or be disrespectful to anyone. This cause people to disrespect you.
  • Do not be embarrassed of who you are. If people know they cannot faze you, they will not try to.

  • If you refuse to change or give in to peer pressure, it may cost you 'friends'. Understand that these people are not your friends, and you are better off without them.
