How to Bake Without the Use of Any Oven

Do you want to add a little twist to your baking, or bake while out camping? Well here's a primitive yet fun and exciting way to bake without the use of any oven - try it on a charcoal grill!

    Prepare your cake batter or pastry according to the usual recipe. The only part that will be different for this approach is using a grill instead of an oven. You'll need a grill filled with lots of burning charcoal.

    Preheat a big camping casserole dish. This will be thicker than aluminum casseroles.

    Place a metal tripod in the dish. This will elevate the batter or pastry mixture to avoid it sticking on the bottom of the dish and burning.

    Turn the cover or lid upside-down. Put half of the burning charcoal in it, using a gardening shovel or tongs, to evenly distribute heat onto the mixture so it can cook thoroughly.

    Wait until the mixture is cooked. Check it regularly to determine if the mixture is cooked or not, or if the food is burnt.

Tips

  • The process may be tricky at first, but once you've perfected it, you surely won't want to buy an oven.

  • Be very cautious when opening the lid while the charcoal is on it; you may accidentally flip it, or some charcoal may roll out of it and fall onto your foot.
