How to Bake Semi Sweet Chocolate Chip Cookies

Semi-sweet chocolate chip cookies have a taste all of their own. And less sugar is better for you!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baker's yeast or baking soda/powder
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fleur de Sel or salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 to 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips (or experiment with bittersweet)
  • (Optional) 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Steps

    Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.

    Mix together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.

    Add in the eggs. Stir until you get a smooth paste.

    Add the vanilla extract.

    Dissolve yeast or baking soda into the hot water.

    Add this mixture to the batter.

    Add fleur de sel or salt.

    Add in flour in small amounts so as to facilitate the stirring.

    Finish by adding chocolate chips and nuts to dough. Make sure to stir well at this point.

    Use a tablespoon to make small mounds of cookie dough (about 2 inches in diameter and 3 inches apart from each other) on a sheet of baking paper (or Parchment paper). Place rack in the middle of the oven. If you are using two racks, then exchange the racks after half of baking time.

    Bake for 6 minutes for golden edges and chewy center.

    Bake for 8 minutes for crispy cookies.

    Remove carefully so as not to break the cookies.

Tips

  • Don't be afraid to use your hands to really mix ingredients together.
  • For a great birthday cake, bake cookie dough in pie pan (use non-stick, or grease the bottom of the pan with a bit of butter and flour). Let bake between 9 and 12 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
  • In order to let ingredients blend and improve taste, refrigerate cookie dough in a large bowl covered with aluminum foil overnight.
