How to Bake Pears in Wine

This basic recipe is an old-fashioned dessert that is ideal for when the weather turns cool or for a lazy dessert that can cook slowly in the background. Here's how to bake pears in wine to serve 4.

Ingredients

  • 4 pears
  • 250 ml red or white wine
  • 50g castor sugar
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Juice and peel of 1 lemon

    Prepare the pears. Wash them, if desired, peel them, trim the stem, and blossom ends with a sharp knife. To cook them quicker, slice them in half from top to bottom and using a spoon or a melon baller, remove the tough core and seeds. Chop the lemon peel into thin strips.

    Place into an oven safe casserole dish. The dish should be large enough for the whole pears or the halves to lie side by side.

    Pour the wine and lemon juice into the dish. Sprinkle with castor sugar, cinnamon, and the lemon peel.

    Cover the dish with a lid or piece of baking paper to prevent them from drying out while baking.
