How to Attract Users to Comment on Your Forum Thread on wikiHow

Is it taking a long time for people to comment on your discussion in the wikiHow forums? Maybe the reason is that your discussion is not interesting enough, or, if it's a Forum Game, not fun enough? You can attract people to comment on your thread by making it more interesting.

Think of an interesting forum post to create.
Think of interesting information that would fit in your discussion.
    • If your category is Forum Games, try to think of a fun game that people may enjoy playing. Make sure you tell exactly how to play the game. Make it clear so people understand and can play.

  3. 3
Select the suitable title for your discussion. This is the key to this. If your title is catchy enough, people will surely take a look at your thread. Good titles help everyone understand exactly what will be discussed.

Choose the right category for your discussion.
The category must be in the correct place or it will end up getting moved to another category by an admin.
  5. 5
Make your post short and sweet. However, they must be descriptive and the reader should understand what you're trying to convey. Avoid writing long stanzas - it is a big turn-off for people.
  6. 6
Respond to people who comment on your thread. Response makes it clear that the thread is still meant to be alive and that the author is still interested. This is also a way of encouraging people to post on your thread.
  7. 7
Try tagging people who might be interested in your thread. For example, if it's about a article's accuracy, tag the person who might be actually familiar with that particular thing in question.
  8. 8
Let people open up. People will come back to that thread where there aren't many restrictions on how they should act. Spare the rod a bit.
  9. 9
Make your thread more colorful and interesting. If it's something in the forums games or the general chat, you can add some pictures and images. This would add a vibrant touch to your thread. This does not mean that it's fine that you add multiple images in the village pump or other main areas of the forums since it distracts the users from the real purpose of the thread.
  10. 10
Try to estimate the possible longevity of your forum thread. If it is a bug report, it is likely to get closed once the bug is fixed. In such cases, do not continue to keep on "bumping" in order to attract people to your threads.

Make sure your forum thread will be one that will not get closed very quickly.
You can do this by making a very interesting thread that will get so popular, it will be like your forum will never end.

  • Make sure your forum will stay popular and not get closed quickly.
  • Make sure you also put your forum in the right category.
  • Remain smart, civil, and calm in your posts.

  • Do not force people to comment on your discussion unless they want to.
  • Do not create threads that are most likely to meet the deletion criteria. Some examples are:
    • Spam threads
    • Advertisement threads
    • Duplicates or multiple creations
    • Threads containing pornography.
    • Threads containing racist/hate based comments.
    • Discussions on universally illegal matters.
