How to Apply Basic Eye Makeup

No matter what eye shades you are using. These techniques will create a flattering make up look with colour that really lasts.

Prime your eyelid. Eye shadow will last longer if it’s not applied directly to the bare skin (oil on the lids can cause shadow to crease. While dry lids will absorb moisture from the shadow, leaving blotchy colour). So sweep foundation or concealer over the top.

Fill in your brows. Choose an eyebrow pencil that’s the same colour or if you are blonde or a redhead and have very pale brows, one shade darker than your natural brow colour. Using light strokes, gently colour over your brows to add emphasis.

Choose your shade. For this look you need a light shadow, a medium and a dark. It does not matter what they are so long as they go together. Try ivory, dove grey and charcoal on cool skins; taupe, beige and chocolate brown on warm. Dust the lightest shade across the whole of your eye, lid and socket.

Use the medium shade and apply this to the eye socket and the outer corner. Blend well using your finger.

Take the darkest shade and using your sponge applicator, apply a thin line of this along the top lid and around the bottom as close to the lashes as you can get. Blend well using your finger another applicator or a cotton bud to create smudgy line. Apply lashings of mascara.
