To enter a competition, you must be mounted, and your horse must have the requisite skill level, and you must sign up at the allotted time. If you show up at the wrong time, the option is greyed out.

Train quickly. A good way to level your horse up fast is to make it run a racecourse on a number of high-leveled jumps. Even if all your Sims are busy, you don't need your horses to be mounted to train - same with race training. If you have a low level jumping skill horse attempt to jump a high level jump, it will refuse and its skill will not rise. So when you starting out, get the cheap ones first until you level up, then get the more expensive ones. More expensive means more skill. When learning racing, make to longest track you can, don't have to be straight!

Cheat. (DOES NOT WORK ON HORSES, only sims - the fatigued moodlet will appear again as soon as you start training.) Everyone knows that you can't train your horses if they are Fatigued! But, there is a way round this - if you don't mind cheating.
    • Hold Shift, Control and C at the same time to bring up the cheat input bar on the very top of the screen.

    • Type in testingcheatsenabled true in the bar and press enter.

    • Hold Shift/Control (depends what computer you have, just try them out) and click on the Fatigue moodlet to get rid of it. Now you can train again until you get Fatigued, then you can hold Shift/Control and click the moodlet again. You can do that with all moodlets. So you can train forever, have that cheat on and hold control and click and drag your chosen need bar so that it is full by dragging it to the top of the bar. You can do this as much as you want. This stops you needing toilet breaks and Food stops. That means you can train at night! This also works on Sims of all ages!

Win every time, but without training a horse. You may think " Without a horse, impossible!" But, it is possible! All you need is to have a pet unicorn!
    • They come with racing and jumping skills at level 10 when you adopt them, which means no training. Even at riding skill level 0 - you can still ride bareback and gallop! They are the fastest creatures ever which makes it really easy to win competitions! They also have magic powers!
