How to Add a Photo to a wikiHow Page

Two Methods:Adding a Photo to Your ProfileAdding a Photo to an Article

So, you want to add photos onto a wikiHow page, but don't know how to do it? If that is the case, this is the guide for you.

Method 1
Adding a Photo to Your Profile

  1. 1
If you don't already have a photo saved to your computer, go looking for one. Make certain that the license is of the proper type. For example, if your photo of choice is "Flying Squirrel .jpg" then do a Google, or similar search for the photo. You will, hopefully, find where it came from. Just because you find it in a photo account somewhere doesn't mean that person didn't harvest a copyrighted photo.
  2. 2
Sign on to your wikiHow account. Open your user page. The Quick Link to your user page is in the column of links on the right of every wikiHow page under My Pages.
  3. 3
Locate the white head image of a person in the left hand corner. Click on it.
  4. 4
Click on the Browse button, and search for your photo on your hard drive. Click Submit.
  5. 5
Use the Crop box to make sure your photo is centered the way you want it. It will only allow you to add a photo of a certain size. Make the grey lines as big as you can, and center them on the part of the photo you want. When you are ready, click on Crop and Save.
  6. 6
Go back to your user page and see if the photo came out the way you wanted it to.
  7. 7
Know that you can redo it if you don't like it. Go back to your user page and click on the "Remove" underneath your avatar.
  8. 8
Remember that you'll receive a popup asking if you're sure about your decision. Removing an avatar is permanent and not reversible. Be sure that you have a copy of the image you want on your hard drive.

Method 2
Adding a Photo to an Article

  1. 1
    Open your article.
  2. 2
Click on the "Edit" tab. Put your cursor where you want the image to appear. Scroll down toward the bottom of the section of the edit window, and on the right side you will see a button labeled Add Image to Introduction. You will see a similar button below the right corner of Steps, Tips, and Warnings.
  3. 3
Click on the button of the desired section. You will then see an image pop up covering the screen. This image gives the important parts. When you fill in the lines with a new image, you will be asked to fill in information about the picture, license, etc. just like any other image.
  4. 4
Put the code where you want it. If you use the Add Image buttons in the edit section, it will automatically be put where your cursor is.
  5. 5
Go to the bottom of the page and click the Preview button. You should see your image where you wanted it.

  • Be sure to use the Preview button until you are certain it's the way you want it. Editors spend hours patrolling changes that don't need to be because the editor wasn't careful before clicking Publish.
  • If this is your first image, it would be a good idea to read through the Writer's Guide, then take the tutorial. When that's done, read through the articles on images. You'll learn a lot, and you won't be so apt to make mistakes.

  • Copyrights are taken very seriously. It's the one place where all your hard work will be deleted, rather than edited, because it's someone else's work. wikiHow has a legal obligation to keep a very close eye out for plagiarism. Fore-warned is fore-armed.
